Fri, March 25, 2005 - 11:24 PMwhat i've seen and heard hasn't blown me away. although i'm able to grasp why some are so impressed. she has a sound that is very mature, but i find her style to be somewhat mimicked.
she calls to mind young musicians like alecia keys and vanessa carlton-because of the way that they have been 'dressed' to be more marketable instead of aided in cultivating their individual sounds. -

Wed, March 30, 2005 - 8:02 PMYeah, I think she was only 16 years old when she recorded that album, you you're right...she sounds mimicked. It is impressive though, cuz she sounds like a big old black woman and she's this little blonde brittish girl.
My husband loves her album. You can tell that Tommy Mottolla had something to do with that album though.

Tue, March 29, 2005 - 4:47 PMI didn't watch it, but I heard that she did a duet with Melissa Etheridge during the grammy award broadcast.
The little bit of Joss Stone I've heard on the radio, I thought was very good. I think she has a very impressive voice and range. Though I agree some songs sound like a producer co-opted her voice & record to meet public expectations. -

Re: Joss Stone
Wed, March 30, 2005 - 1:51 PMI have seen some of her performances on TV and have heard some of her songs on the radio...she has talent and is a pretty girl...but I tend to hold my tongue till I see someone LIVE. She has this kind of bluesy thing going on which is cool...but is being done so often now with pop that in my mind it is just becoming manufactured ... which is something that blues/jazz should never be. It is hard for me to wrap my head around a 17/18 year old singing blues.
I just thank god she isn't another Britney Spears ;) -

Re: Joss Stone
Thu, May 19, 2005 - 5:12 PMthe girl's got a great voice, but shes nothing new. nothing diferent. i am pretty tired with these chick "musicians" that aren't really doing anything besides singing. and most of them aren't even writing the songs that they sing. i want to see a strong, independant woman in mainstream music. the ones that seem to be strong and independent are still so fluffy. same old lyrics. same old beat. i can't think of enough radical, innovative women in music. of corse there are some, just not enough. joss stone- the babe is a babe singin the same old tunes.
peace
