So I hopped in my car after work today and heard Neko Case followed by Rylo Kiley on the radio on my favorite local college station. From there it got even better. It turns out the program I was listening to will be running for the entire summer, every monday afternoon from 4:30 to 5:30pm eastern time.
You can listen in too by tuning your radio to 91.3 WVKR in the greater Poughkeepsie,NY area or by visiting wvkr.org on the internet and catching the live streaming audio. The show is devoted solely to girls and girl bands that rock and the girl who does the show sounds like she knows her music.
So now I've got this Rylo Kiley (any spelling suggestions?) song in my head and it's great! I'm hooked. Anyone a fan out there who can tell me more about her/them?

Re: rockin' girls on my radio
Tue, July 13, 2004 - 7:22 PMI did some of my own research (for once) and discovered that Rilo Kiley is a band made up of actors. I found a blurb about them in a relatively recent issue of Spin magazine under an article about the top underated bands. (It was all by accident. Anyone who knows me would know that I'm way too lazy to do my own research. See I was in the barbershop waiting for my haircut and I'd just finished a huge article about The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and Karen O, so I was flipping through the other articles and there they were! It was kind of an amazing coincidence.)
Anyway, the songs are primarily by Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennett. Jenny Lewis was in the movie Pleasantville among other things. The band, or the album at least was recorded, in Lincoln, Nebraska. That's about all I discovered. Besides the fact that Spin calls them one of the top underated bands. So there you go. I REALLY like the one song I heard on the radio so I think I'll buy the album since it's only like $12. I'm very interested in hearing more of their stuff. Again, if there's any fans of the band out there, or anyone else who's heard them, I'd be interested to hear what you have to say.
