I just heard about this new compilation album of "...the best contemporary female musicians." I guess it's a benefit album for something or other. It includes 'popular' people like Tori, Sarah McLachlan, Macy Gray, Aimee Mann, Avril Lavigne, etc... but also has artists like Sarah Harmer, Erin McKeown, Kathleen Edwards, Oh Susanna, and the like.
Has anyone else heard about this? Is it any good? If it's good, any ideas where one can get a copy of it.

Everyone benefitsfrom 'Girls' fund-raiser
'oh! From the Girls'
various (Nettwerk America)
Rating: (****)
The compilation "oh! From the Girls" is a fund-raiser for the Oxygen network charity foundation "oh! Get the Money," which provides the means for women to launch their own businesses.
Before the first penny from the album makes it through the charity's process to a beneficiary, several women already will have been helped in their careers:
The upstart performers who are featured alongside the icons on "oh! From the Girls" will get valuable exposure.
These relative unknowns prove their worth. Elements of Americana unify such enticing cuts as The Be Good Tanyas' breezy "It's Not Happening," Erin McKeown's lilting "Slung-Lo" and Martina Sorbara's ghostly "Withered on the Vine." Other beguiling semi-obscurities include Oh Susanna's bluesy "Right By Your Side," Sarah Harmer's infectious rocker "Basement Apartment" and Kathleen Edwards' casual-country-cool "Six O'Clock News."
Those tracks are mere bonuses for the majority of buyers, who'll be drawn to the variety of established stars on "oh! From the Girls," including singer-songwriters with cult followings such as Tori Amos (who offers an extended, live version of "Cornflake Girl") and Aimee Mann ("Calling It Quits") as well as Dido and Sarah McLachlan, who are represented by their omnipresent smashes "Thank You" and "Angel," respectively.
There are recent breakouts -- Avril Lavigne ("I'm With You") and Stacie Orrico ("Stuck") -- and fading phenomena -- Macy Gray (a live rendition of "Come Together") and Sixpence None the Richer (who brings "oh! From the Girls" to its lowest point with a flaccid cover of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over").
There's also the stately and symbolic "I'll Stand By You" from The Pretenders, whose Chrissie Hynde is the wise tribe elder of the compilation.
So aspiring businesswomen get a boost, deserving performers are introduced to potential new followers, and music fans are treated to a well-rounded collection. Seems like everyone wins with this one.

I know that I'm pretty new to this Tribe, but I just HAVE to spread the word o'luv about Erin McKeown! She is a totally great musician! " Slung Lo" is a fab song (as is "Born to Hum" but it's not on this cd). Peace out. :)
